Charity Navigator Gives HHRD a 4-Star Rating
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Helping Hand for Relief and Development’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it a top rating from Charity Navigator, America’s independent charity evaluator, for the 10th straight year. HHRD’s 4-star rating is based on 17 metrics that gauge governance and ethical practices, as well as openness.
Helping Hand for Relief & Development
Founded in 2005, Helping Hand for Relief and Development has never wavered from its mission of “strengthening the bond of humanity.” The organization accomplishes this by providing aid to impoverished people all over the world.
HHRD has a wide variety of programs, including emergency aid, disaster response, skills development, water for life and Qurbani/Udiyah. It also helps refugees and internally displaced people.
With the current global humanitarian crisis continuing to escalate, more people than ever need our support. More than 79 million people have been displaced from their homes—more than at any time since records began. Helping Hand for Relief & Development is one of the leading US-based international charities that is working alongside local vetted partners to provide lifesaving assistance in these devastated areas. HHRD’s strong financial health and commitment to transparency have earned it a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. Learn more. This program’s overall beacon score is 100%, earning a Four-Star rating.
Helping Refugees & IDPs
Every year millions of people are uprooted from their homes, with forced displacement lasting on average 20 years. They are refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) or migrants. Though these terms are often used interchangeably, they signify distinct legal statuses with different rights and protections. Cordaid works with all three groups, promoting self-reliance and access to jobs in the host economy, supporting education services and shaping perceptions of migration.
We also help develop social protection systems to better meet the needs of displaced communities, and we work towards durable solutions, like returning home or resettlement. Moreover, we focus on reducing the root causes of conflict and violence that push people to flee their homes in the first place. By working alongside governments to address fragility and conflict, we can contribute to a world where no one has to become a refugee. Our partners are making progress in this regard, but more needs to be done.
Global Winter Provisions Program
HHRD works alongside local, vetted partner NGOs to provide winter essentials to families living in poverty, orphans, widows and the elderly. These gifts of warmth, food and heating equipment help them survive the freezing temperatures of their home countries.
Earlier this year, before the cold weather hit, HHRD began its winter response, targeting highly vulnerable women-headed households and children with disabilities or living in urban slums by providing unconditional cash assistance. The program also prepositioned thousands of newborn kits, blankets and other supplies and set up mobile health and nutrition teams.
You can sponsor a winter package for a family of your choice today. Your gift provides crucial lifesaving provisions, including bedding, warm clothing, blankets and heating equipment. This critical aid protects against the brutally cold temperatures that could otherwise kill vulnerable families and their children.
Water & Sanitation
Clean drinking water and adequate sanitation are essential to health, livelihoods and dignity. Safe WASH facilities prevent the recurrence of diarrhoea, protect children from dangerous micro-organisms, and prevent the contaminating effects of untreated human excreta on groundwater and surface water for drinking, cooking and household washing.
Many water charities focus on rural areas, digging wells and installing filtration systems in communities where there may not be any other options. These projects are important but still leave millions of people without access to clean water.
Lifewater International is a Christian clean water charity that works in countries all around the world. They are one of Charity Navigator’s top-rated water and sanitation charities with a four star rating. Read more about their work here. They also provide transparent financial information on their website, so that donors can make informed giving decisions. This is an important step in ensuring that the organization can keep its promises to donors and beneficiaries.
